SKATEBOARD DESIGN CONCEPT. I have always been inspired by skateboarding and music when creating and developing my designs. It had never occurred to me to make my own, physical board. I wanted to look at making it myself as opposed to sending my designs to a company. I decided to learn the skill myself.
I purchased a plain deck online and began researching the correct dimensions for the design for the board. I used a combination of Procreate on Apple iPad and Adobe Photoshop CC to finalise the design. Due to the restrictions of large formats in Procreate, I was only limited to 5 layers. Therefore, I decided to limit the design to one colour and use halftones to add texture and shading. The design was printed on to an A1 waterproof vinyl sticker to prevent colours from running if it were printed on an inkjet printer. The sticker was applied to the deck and then any excess was removed to allow a flush finish. The trickiest part was the placement and alignment and to prevent any air bubbles from appearing. This was an interesting technique to try and one of my favourite outcomes I have created.
